Harry van Gestel is geboren in Reusel, een klein dorp in het zuiden van Nederland in 1953. Van Gestel is bekend door zijn grote en kleurrijke abstracte en expressionistische schilderijen. Naast schilderijen maakt van Gestel sculpturen, tekeningen, bloemenkunst, theater en schrijft hij gedichten en boeken. Hij heeft zijn kunst internationaal tentoongesteld. Van Nagasaki Japan, tot Los Angeles in USA. Kenners en verzamelaars hebben zijn werk beschreven als een feest voor het oog en een geestverruimende ervaring. Zijn werken zijn te zien in galerijen, hotels, ziekenhuizen, advocatenkantoren, musea (Nagasaki museum of culture), privé collecties, kleine bedrijven, multinationals en zelf in diplomatieke collecties. Sinds 1998 heeft Harry van Gestel zijn eigen galerij en studio in het centrum van Amsterdam: de Harry van Gestel galerij.
Harry heeft geen horloge, geen computer en geen agenda. Hij leeft volkomen in het moment. Deze manier van leven, wat hij heeft geleerd tijdens zijn internationale leven, de culturen waarin hij geleefd heeft, zijn battles die hij overwonnen heeft, zijn allemaal samengekomen in zijn (geschreven) kunst waar zijn identiteit terugkomt en worden gerepresenteerd op het canvas en in zijn woorden.

Harry van Gestel was born in Reusel, a small village in the south of the Netherlands in 1953. Harry is best known for his large and colourful abstract expressionistic paintings. Throughout his career van Gestel has built an extensive body of works including paintings, sculptures, drawings, flower art, performances, poetry, tapestries and books. Throughout his international lifestyle and many international exhibitions he has left a trail of his art that reaches from Nagasaki Japan to Los Angeles USA. Art critics and collectors have described his work as a feast for the eye - and a mind altering experience. The works of Harry van Gestel are featured in galleries, hotels, hospitals, law firms, museums (Nagasaki museum of culture), in the collection of private collectors, small businesses, multinationals and even diplomatic collections. Since 1998 van Gestel owns his own gallery and studio in the city centre of Amsterdam; the Harry van Gestel gallery.
Harry has no watch, no computer, and no agenda. Harry lives completely in the moment. This state of mind, the lessons learned through his international life, the cultures he has integrated in, and the battles he has fought all come together in his artworks and his writings where Harry’s identity and soul are represented on the canvas and in the words.
